The Goracle
Except, no. Not even close.
The earth's core isn't several million degrees, try 4,000 to 9,000 degrees Celsius.
"If the temperature anywhere inside the earth was 'several million degrees,' we'd be a star."John Derbyshire
National Review
Physlink, a physics and astronomy website, explains Al Gore's ignorance like this:
It is approximately 4000°C at the centre of the Earth. To put this in context:
1. The centre of the Sun is approximately 15 million°C
2. The surface of the Sun is 5500°C
3. Iron melts at 1535°C (when at atmospheric pressure)
4. Water boils at 100°C (when at atmospheric pressure)
5. Human skin is comfortable with temperatures up to about 60°C
6. The highest temperature recorded on the Earth's surface is 58°C (Libya 1922)
Truly, this is all very scientific. And maybe the scientists of the world are wrong. Maybe Al Gore is right. Perhaps the inner earth core is several million degrees. Perhaps...we are a star.
Gore is the expert, you know. I mean, he made a movie and he gives speeches and stuff. And before that, well, he was a politician. He's the thinking man's thinking man, though he won't debate any thinking men.
Look deep into his eyes. He's definitely thinking about something. His next hamburger?Curtsy to Newsbusters' Noel Sheppard
